Thuya (too-yah) wood is a unique natural resource, from a rare conifer tree resembling an oak shrub, exclusive to the northwestern Moroccan city of Essaouira and is now considered a protected species. Morocco’s skilled woodworkers spend countless hours carving and polishing the firm burl on the trunks of these trees to produce a fabulous product.
